Here’s why you need a career coach
The rise of short form video content has given us a window into career coaching. Online coaches provide advice, tips and tricks to navigate the corporate jungle in 30 – 60 second TikTok-style videos that can sometimes lead to hours of binge-watching that kind of content. While these videos introduce you to basic elements of career coaching, they only touch on the surface-level benefits of what a structured career coaching service would do for you.
Simply put, career coaches help you get from where you are to where you want to be by providing the guidance, tools and insights needed to get there. A career coach usually facilitates one-on-one sessions designed to help you identify the skills and capabilities required for you to meet your career goals.
These skills and capabilities can include job or industry-related hard skills, soft skills such as effective communication and positioning yourself in the workplace, salary negotiation, how to improve you networking skills and many more. A career coach helps you identify gaps in your arsenal and works closely with you to guide and advise how you can acquire the skills and knowledge required to progress in your career.
So, who can benefit from getting a career coach? Ideally at some point in our careers, we should all consider career coaching services. A career coach not only helps you develop a structured approach to achieving your career goals, they also help you uncover blind spots in your approach and help unlock your full potential in the workplace.
For those, with more obvious signs and immediate need for career coaching services, here’s how a career coach can benefit you:
If you feel stuck or stagnant in your career and need (re)direction to move from where you are to where you want to be in a methodical and structured way.
If you want to pivot into another career or industry and need a plan of action to break through into this new career or industry.
If you’ve been job hunting and interviewing and have not been successful and need tips and tricks on how you can ace your next interview and land your dream job.
If you want to move up in your career and get a promotion and need a coaching to make strategic moves within and outside of your organisation.
This list is not exhaustive but includes some of the common reasons individuals consider and seek career coaching services for their professional ambitions. The one thing that career coaching does affirm is that you need to be deliberate about having a fulfilling and rewarding career.
